Hotel Telegrafo
Hotel Telegrafo
Prado 408 esq Neptuno
Habana Vieja, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba
Cuba’s oldest hotel, Hotel Telegrafo first opened its doors to the public around 1860, some years after the first telegraphic station was created in the country (the property’s name may in fact have been inspired by this). It was moved to its present location in 1888, and by 1914 the hotel rooms and restaurant boasted telephones that afforded guests both national and international services. At this time even public restrooms were a rare and novel luxury.
Across from Parque Central, the hotel stands on the wide, tree-lined Paseo del Prado, next door to Havana’s National Theatre and Capitolio. It is also within walking distance of the city’s colonial center and the seawall which offers magnificent views of the lighthouse.
The Telégrafo’s 54 standard rooms are spacious, colorful, and have an eclectic style comfortably appointed with modern furnishings (only some have the preserved remains of the original walls). They are warm and lively, a feel which is enhanced by the abundant light let in by the large windows. The bathrooms are also modern and well appointed. Only street-facing rooms on the first floor have balconies. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, phone, satellite TV, safety deposit box, hair dryer, mini bar, private bathroom, and cold & hot water.
There is a restaurant on the first floor which provides an outdoor dining experience. Enjoy a three course cuban meal while taking in the charming atmosphere of the park. Guests can also get a quick bite to eat or a light snack at the bar.
